Croatia sailing guide 2025 – routes, marinas and local insights

Why Croatia belongs on your shortlist

With more than 1,000 islands, reliable afternoon Maestral breezes, and modern marina infrastructure, Croatia remains Charterwerk’s most requested sailing area. Peak season runs from late May to early September, but shoulder months April, October, and even November offer quieter anchorages.

When to go

  • April–May – Pleasant temperatures (18–24 °C), lighter winds, ideal for relaxed cat charters.
  • June–August – High season, festival atmosphere, book well ahead.
  • September–October – Warm sea, steady breeze, lower mooring fees.
  • Winter – Limited services, but Dubrovnik and Split marinas stay open for delivery trips.

Sample 7-day itinerary (Split → Split)

  1. Day 1 – Split to Milna (Brač)
Short shake-down sail. Moor at Marina Vlaška; dine at Konoba Palma.
  2. Day 2 – Milna to Hvar Town
Arrive before 16:00 to secure a quay. Reserve a buoy in the Pakleni islands as backup.
  3. Day 3 – Hvar to Vis
Explore Blue Cave (Bisevo) early. Moor at Kut for calmer nights.
  4. Day 4 – Vis to Komiža
Westerly-facing harbour; watch swell on southerlies.
  5. Day 5 – Komiža to Korčula
Lush island, old town walls. Book ACI Korčula via Charterwerk to skip queues.
  6. Day 6 – Korčula to Šćedro or Lovište
Quiet bays, perfect for BBQ nights.
  7. Day 7 – Return to Split via Zlatni Rat (Brač)
Anchor off Zlatni Rat for a swim if wind allows.

Fourteen-day extension (Northern Dalmatia)

  • Continue to Šibenik via the Krka River waterfalls.
  • Overnight at Kornati National Park (permits available through Charterwerk Contact).
  • Try the skippers’ favourite Žut and Telašćica bays for night-sky views.
  • Return south via Primošten and Trogir for UNESCO architecture.

CharterWerk insider tips

  • Base transfers – We can arrange Split airport → marina shuttle within 25 minutes.
  • Winds – Expect Maestral NW breeze afternoons (12–18 kn). Bura (NE) can arrive quickly; check GRIBs each morning.
  • Marina bookings – Use the Charterwerk app to request berths at ACI or local harbours ahead of arrival.
  • Fees – Tourist tax (approx. €1.35 pp/day) is collected at check-in. National park permits can be bundled into your booking.
  • Provisioning – Wolt and Glovo deliver to most marinas; pre-order heavy items.
